ARTISOFT ANNOUNCES NEW LANTASTIC(R) NODERUNNER(TM) 2000 SERIES
ADAPTERS Software-Configurable Adapters Based On New ALICE(TM)
(Artisoft's LAN Interface Chip for Ethernet) Controller
(TUCSON, AZ -- January 11, 1993) -- Artisoft, Inc. announced today
its new LANtastic NodeRunner 2000 Series adapters -- four new
adapters that incorporate the new ALICE controller, a completely
software-configurable Ethernet Integrated Circuit designed and
developed by Artisoft. These adapters, as well as LANtastic Starter
Kits featuring the new adapters, will begin shipping in February
within the same price range as Artisoft's current line of adapters
and Starter Kits.
"Because these adapters use our new ALICE controller, they are
software-configurable for easy installation into a LANtastic
network," stated Jack Schoof, Artisoft Chairman and CEO. "Just add
them to the network and you're ready to go."
The LANtastic NodeRunner adapters are the first Artisoft(R) products
to use the ALICE controller. This also makes them the first Artisoft
products to embody the LANtastic On Board(TM) concept -- products
that are easily installed because they are network-ready to operate
on LANtastic networks. LANtastic On Board products are easily
identified by the LANtastic On Board logo, a yellow diamond, on their
packaging.
The ALICE controller is one of the smallest Ethernet Integrated
Circuits (ICs) on the market, measuring less than one square inch,
and is the only IC to support both ISA and MicroChannel bus
architectures. In addition, it is software-compatible with four major
industry- standard Ethernet designs, Artisoft's AE-2(TM) and
Novell's NE1000, NE2000 and NE/2 adapters.
The LANtastic NodeRunner 2000 Series adapters include a one-user
LANtastic network software license for each of the models: the
2000/C, 2000/T, 2000/A and 2000M/TC. These adapters, measuring only
6.25" by 2.125" (ISA bus), are 16-bit Ethernet adapters in 100%
compliance with the 802.3 Ethernet standard. They come with 32K
onboard buffer RAM and autosense between 8- and 16-bit slots.
The 2000/C model has a BNC connection for
thin coax cable. The 2000/T model has an RJ-45 connection for
unshielded twisted pair cable and can be connected internally to an
Artisoft Peer Hub(TM) 10BASE-T concentrator. Both adapters have a
suggested retail price of $299.
The 2000/A model has AUI, BNC and RJ-45 connections for use with
thick and thin coax and unshielded twisted pair cable respectively.
It can also be connected internally to a Peer Hub 10BASE-T
concentrator. The 2000/A has a suggested retail price of $349. The
2000M/TC model is a MicroChannel adapter with BNC and RJ- 45
connections for use with coax and unshielded twisted pair cable. It
has a suggested retail price of $399.
The LANtastic NodeRunner 2000/C Starter Kit, like all LANtastic
Starter Kits, will include everything necessary to set up a LANtastic
network: two adapters, the LANtastic Network Operating System for up
to 300 users, cabling and documentation. It has a suggested retail
price of $699 for DOS and $799 for Windows(TM) environments.
Customers also have the option of purchasing the LANtastic Network
Operating System separately in a LANtastic Software Starter Kit
(which also supports up to 300 users) for use with any Artisoft
NodeRunner or AE Series adapter. Customers must first begin with a
LANtastic Starter Kit in order to take advantage of the LANtastic
network one-user license included with their adapters.
ADDENDUM TO ARTISOFT'S LANTASTIC NODERUNNER(TM) adapter release
(TUCSON, AZ ∙ January 11, 1993) ∙ Artisoft, Inc. announced
today it will also be shipping a LANtastic NodeRunner 2000/C Starter
Kit (for thin coax), available in February, at $699 for DOS and $799
for Windows(TM) environments. This Starter Kit, like all LANtastic
Starter Kits, will include everything necessary to set up a LANtastic
network: two adapters, the LANtastic Network Operating System for up
to 300 users, cabling and documentation.
Customers also have the option of purchasing the LANtastic
Network Operating System separately in a LANtastic Software Starter
Kit (which also supports up to 300 users) for use with any Artisoft½
